If you’re
trying to pay for college you realize that a college education isn’t
cheap. The price tag for a top private school can exceed $32,000
per year just for tuition. That does not include the cost of
books, transportation, food and personal expenses. This can seem
like an overwhelming financial burden. There are ways to help pay for a
college education using Financial Aid and
Scholarships.
The federal government's approach to financial aid is
focused on increasing access to postsecondary education. The
primary objective is providing financial help to students who
otherwise could not afford to pay for a college education. Most financial
aid is need based rather than merit based. In general, financial
aid for higher education is available in three forms:
-
Student Loans; which must be repaid -
Grants and Scholarships; which do not have to be
repaid - Education Plus Loans for parents; which must be
repaid - Work-Study Programs; which place students in paying jobs on
campus
All students interested in receiving financial aid for
college will need to complete the FAFSA form – which stands for
Free
Application for Federal Student Aid. Applying early is
highly recommended as most schools award their limited funds on a
first-come, first-served basis. Tip: Start your college search early!
The internet has
made it easier to find money available to help pay for a college education – start your research early and use as many resources as possible.
